In Japan, this was a regular golf game about humans. They didn’t think that’d be interesting enough for the US, so they changed it to a golf game about robots.

I can see the conversation in NES’s American offices in Washington: “They liked robots playing baseball, no reason they won’t like robots playing golf!”
